Mail aliases
Mail aliases enable mail addressed to a recipent that does exist on the server, to be directed to a user that does exist on the server. For example, if there is no user on the server called 'gill', 'sales' or 'info' then:
- 'gill' can be aliased to 'gillian'
- mail addressed to 'sales' can be directed to a user whose responsibility is to deal with sales enquiries or to multiple users by seperatingnameswith commas
- aliases can also include external e-mail addresses
- aliases can also cascade
Note this is not the same as Redirecting mail for unknown users where the addressee is not valid nor delt with using an alias.
Setting Up Aliases
Login to the GEM andgo to Email -> Mail Aliases and Lists. In the example below there is no user for the names in he Alias column but each name or external mail address in the Deliver to: column, is valid.
Aliases can also cascade. In the example below 'info' also goes to 'sales' which in turn forwards on to the specified users.
Note that a name to be aliased can only be in the Alias column once, so all names to be aliased to, must be on the same line.
Remember to click 'Save Mailer Settings', these entries will then be moved to the 'Local Mail Aliases' list.
